WBCS Examination Main Optional Paper on Anthropology (Paper I) - 2016

ANTHROPOLOGY - PAPER - I

Time Allowed : 3 Hours     Full Marks : 200

If the questions attempted are in excess of the prescribed number, only the questions attempted first up to the prescribed number shall be valued and the remaining ones ignored.

Answer may be written either in English or in Bengali but all answers must be in one and the same language.

 

Group - A

Answer any three questions (All questions carry 30 marks)

1. Define evolution.  Discuss in brief modern synthetic theory of human evolution,

2  What is human genetics ?  State characteristic features of autosomal, sex chromosomal, multifactorial and polygenic

inheritance in man.

3. Define Growth.  What are the differences between growth and development ?  Discuss in brief different methods of human growth study,

4. What do you mean ''adaptation".  Write a short note on human adaptation in respect of hot and cold climate.

 

Group - B

Answer any three questions (All questions carry 30 marks)

5. Define marriage. Write a brief note on preferential and prescribed forms of marriage.

6. What is post modern anthropology, and how has it criticized traditional anthropology ?

7. Define religion.  What are the differences between magic and religion.  Write a short note on universality of religion.

8- What are research methods ?  What are the differences between methods and methodology ? Write a brief note on participant observations.

 

Group - C

9, Write short notes on any two of the following  (10 x 2 = 20 marks)

(a)  Hunter-gatherer  society.

(b) C14 dating and its application on paleoanthropology.

(c) Nutrition deficiency related diseases in man.

(d) Relevance of biological anthropology in public health.
