Answer any three questions.
1. What differences are found in the in-group-out-group distinations in primitive and modern societies ?
2. How does the participant-observer technique differ from merely looking at things ? Isn't everyone a participant observer ?
3. Why do "backward" or primitive societies have less crime and fewer violations of the mores than "progressive" societies like ours ?
4. Why are the social scientists hesitant to use the term ''progress"?
5. If culture develops similarities in personslity within a society, how do we explain personality differences within a society ? Are such personality difference greater within a simple or within a complex society ? Why ?

6. What place has the individual in Durkheim's thought ?
7. Does Durkheim's suicide have any modern relevance ?
8. The conservative churches with a rigid theology seem to be growing more rapidly than liberal churches which seek an accomodation between religion and science. How would you explain this ?
