Landscape Architecture
It is a specialized field. Landscape architecture is the design of outdoor and public spaces. A landscape architect needs to be proficient in urban planning and design, site planning, environmental restoration, parks and recreation planning, visual resource management, and green infrastructure planning and provision. Landscape architecture’s objective is to achieve urban living which is environmentally safe, aesthetically beautiful and helps in stress-free living.
Mega projects such as highways, mass transit systems, airports, ports and largescale land redevelopment projects would require the services of expert landscape architects.

Courses
Architecture can be pursued at graduation levels: Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arcfi) and then follow it up with a Masters (M.Arch).

Eligibility

Besides this, the candidate must qualify an entrance examination. The duration of the course is five years.

M.Arch: B.Arc and the duration will be three semesters.
At the masters level, specialisation is offered in landscape architecture, architecturral conservation, urban design, building engineering & management, environment planning, housing, transport planning, regional planning, town and country planning, indstrial design etc.

Govt & Private Colleges: The CBSE conducts the national examination - All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) -for entry into B. Arch and B. Planning in government and private institutes.

IITs: Entrance to architecture programmes at the Indian Institutes of Technology (NT’s) is through the national level Joint Entrance Exami-nation (JEE).

States Colleges: Different states also hold separate entrance exams for admission to architecture and engineering colleges in the state. Some private institutes conduct entrance exams of their own also.

Generally the entrance paper consists of mathematics and a drawing test. The drawing exam is conducted by the National Institute of Advanced Studies and Architecture in association with the Council of Architecture (COA).

Computer-aided Design in Architecture
Computers have entered the offices of architects. Familiarity with CAD is now a must for architects. Although it has not been included formally in the syllabus of many universities, the present generation of architects cannot afford to ignore CAD. Many private institutes offer training in programmes such as AutoCAD and 3D Max.

The Council of Architecture
The Council of Architecture (COA), a Government organization, regulates the education and practice of profession in India besides maintaining the register of architects. To practice as an ‘Architect’ one must have registered himself with the COA. For registration, a candidate must possess the requisite qualification as per the Architects Act,. He or she must have undergone the education in accordance with the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983.
The registration also entitles a person to use the title and style of Architect. The title and style of architect can also be used by a firm of architects, of which all partners are registered with COA. Limited Companies, Private/Public Companies, societies and other juridical persons are not entitled to use the title and style of architect nor are they entitled to practice the profession of architecture.
There are 135 institutions which impart architectural education in India leading to recognized qualifications. The standards of education being imparted in these institutions (constituent colleges/departments of universities, deemed universities, affiliated colleges/schools, IITs, NITs and autonomous institutions) is governed by Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983, which set forth the requirement of eligibility for admission, course duration, standards of staff & accommodation, course content, examination etc.
