রাষ্ট্রপতি কালাম তাঁর প্রকাশিত ' Ignited Minds' বইটিতে বলেছেন : ' Where are we making mistake ? ... We have most of the necessary resources . There seems to be an attitude problem , as if we cannot shake ourselves out of a mindset of limited achievement.... More than the problems outside --- globalization, recession, inflation, insurgency, instability and so on--- I am concerned about the inertia that has gripped the national psyche, the mindset of defeat.
[ কোথায় আমরা ভুল করছি ? ... আমাদের বেশির ভাগ প্রয়োজনীয় সম্পদই আছে । মনে হয় ,আমাদের মনোভাবের মধ্যে কোন সমস্যা আছে । আমরা শুধু সীমাবদ্ধ গন্ডির মধ্যেই সফল হতে সক্ষম, এই ধারনা বোধ হয় ঝেড়ে ফেলতে পারছি না । একটা জড়তা আমাদের জাতীয় মানসিকতাকে গ্রাস করেছে । এই জড়তা হল : হেরে যাওয়ার মনোভাব আমি বেশি চিন্তিত একে নিয়ে , এমনকি বিশ্বায়ন, অর্থনৈতিক দুর্দিন, মুদ্রাস্ফীতি, আঞ্চলিক বিদ্রোহ , রাজনৈতিক অস্থিরতা ইত্যাদি বাইরের সমস্যা গুলির থেকেও ।
