Group A
Answer any three questions.
1. Society and Culture of India betray simultaneously the forces of continuity and of change. Do you agree ? Give reasons.
2. Assess the efficacy of (a) indological or (b) dialectical opproach towards the study of the Indian Society and Culture.
3. Why is it said that caste in India is changing but not dying ? Which plants of the caste system show the greatest degree of resilience ? Why ?
4. What function does kinship play in out society ? Is there any contrast between the kinship system of North India and that of South India ? Give reasons for your answer.
5. Examine the relation of eduction, occupation and social mobility in modern India.
Group B
Answer any two questions.
6. Discuss the nature of the link between industrialization and urbanization. What happens if urbanization outstrips industrialization ? Give your answer with refernce to India.
7. Analyse the socio-economic and political factors that continue to depress the position of women in Indian Society. Discuss the measures that have been taken to remedy the situation after the independence giving a special emphasis to the change recently introduced in West Bengal in relation to women's participation in politics.
8. How far is generational disaffiliation responsible for youth activism in India ? Do you think that the Indian youth has succeeded in responding to the national challenges ? Give arguments for your view.
