Answer any three questions.
1. Attempt a comparative study of the structural-functional approach and the dialectical aproach as analytical framework for understanding Indian Society.
2. How significant are language and religion as components of nationality ? Discuss with reference to the modern Indian State.
3. What are the criteria suggested by the Mandal Commission for indemnifying a specific Caste / Class as 'backward' ? Give a critical review of the major recommendations of the Mandal Commission.
4. Discuss the impact of industrialisation and urbanisation on the family system in Contemporary India.
5. With the processes of economic change and political modernisation there have been changes in the stratification system of the agrarian Society in India. Do you agree with the statement ? Justify your answer.

6. Discuss the interrelationship between caste and political parties in the democratic setup of India today.
7. The major factors influencing fertility, mortality, migration and contraception have their roots in the sociocultural milieu. In the light of the above statement what measures would you suggest for controlling 'population explosion' in India.
8. What do you understand by Sociology of education ? Discuss in this context the problem of illiteracy among women in our country in the recent times.
