Group A
Answer any three questions.
1. The coexistence of fradition and modernity in the contemporary Indian society is but an example of continuity and charge of the society and culture in India.
2. What are the major approaches that become evident in the study of Indian Society by the sociologists ? Which one of them do you consider most effective in understanding the Indian society and why ?
3. What function does Kinship perform in our society ? Is there any significant difference between the kinship systems of North India and South India ? Give reasons for your answer.
4. Examine if the hierarchy of the Indian caste system imply a special form of inequality
Show how the 'Jajmani system' contributed to the maintenance of the institution of caste.
5. Assess whether and how far the Indian polity has in the fiftieth year of her independence realised the ideal of a "Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic."

Answer any two questions.
6. Examine the role of Social movements in bringing about serial change in modern India.
7. Examine the problem of child labour in India in the context of opposition from various national and international quarters to its practice and continuance
8. Do you think that reservation of a thire of the seats for women in state ligislatures and the national Parliament would lead to real empowerment of women ? Give reasons for your answer.
