Answer any three questions.
1. Discuss the structural-functional approach to the study of society, with special reference to the society in India.
2. What is a caste ? How does it differ from a class ? Indicate the factors that the making the caste system in India less rigid as a form of social stratification.
3. How does a joint family differ from a nuclear family ? Point out the factors that are causing the disintegration of joint families in India.
4. Examine the impact of education on social mobility in India.
5. What exactly is meant by 'social movement' ? Discuss the role of social movements as an instrument of social change, with Indian examples.
Group B
Answer any two questions.
6. What, in your opinion are the factors ensuring unity of Indian society despite the prevalence of a marked diversity in its composition ?
7. Do you consider drug addiction to be a major social problem in India ? How does it affect our society ? Suggest ways to tackle this problem.
8. What are the characteristics that distinguish tribes from the non-tribal population in India ? Indicate the main problems facing the tribes in our country. Give your opinion on the effectiveness of the measures adopted so far for solving these problems.
