Bioinformatics

A new course that  involve both biology and information technology.

Image removed.Bioinformatics as the name indicates is the application of information technology to the field of molecular biology. Bioinformatics or computational biology involves the application of computer technology for analysis and management of biological data. For good career prospects, aspirants must acquire expertise and higher degrees in both life sciences and computer sciences. It requires a planned approach and takes longer period of education to get good, high-paying jobs.

Course
The basic course is B.Sc. or B. Sc. (Hons) in Bioinformatics. At graduation level, a student learns various new subjects such as computational biology and genetic engineering in biosciences and from computing basics to complex database management systems on the information technology side.

Eligibility
For B.Sc. in Bioinformatics, one must have passed 10+2 examination with Science as the subject from a reputed board or educational institution. Admission is often by qualifying an entrance exam.

Higher Studies
A course in bioinformatics is suitable for those with a graduation or post-graduation in molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, chemistry, pharmacy, veterinary sciences, physics, mathematics, and also engineers, IT professionals, PhDs and medicos.

B.Tech in Bioinformatics: Candi-date should complete 10+2 with physics, chemistry, biology and English
Master's Degree in Bioinformatics: Candidate should complete their graduation in any of the following subjects: B.Sc / B.Sc (Agriculture)/ BCS / BE / B.Tech / MBBS /B Pharm / BAMS / BHMS / BVSc.

Advanced Diploma in Bioinformatics: Candidates having a post-graduation in any of the following subjects: M.Sc in life sciences, physics, chemistry, mathematics, biotechnology, biophysics, botany, zoology, biochemistry , micro biology, pharmacology, computer science or equivalent), M.Sc (Agriculture) or M.Tech or MBBS.

M.Tech: Pharmacy graduate, medical, dental and veterinary science graduates as well as postgraduates in science.

Admission
Entry into specific institutions depends upon the universities and colleges. Almost all institutions conduct an entrance test.
