1.The World Bank President Jim Yong Kim arrived in New Delhi, India on 21 July 2014 on his three-day visit. During his visit, he will meet Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi for understanding the development priorities in India. Jim Yong Kim is scheduled to meet the Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley also. 

2. With a view to strengthen bilateral relationship, India and Brazil signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) during the 6th BRICS Summit in Fortaleza, Brazil. The agreement was inked by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.

3. Russia has offered to host the BRICS Summit for year 2015 in the country’s city of Ufa after the grouping’s successful meeting in Brazil that witnessed a consensus being reached on setting up a development bank and a contingency reserve arrangement.

4. Yellapragada Sudharshan Rao on 25 June 2014 was appointed as Chairman of Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR). He replaced Basudev Chatterjee.  He would serve the council for a term of three years.

5. Ministry of Shipping clears life time licences for Indian Ships and any other ship charted by an Indian citizen or an Indian company. At present, such licences have to be renewed every year.

. Wipro, nation’s 3rd largest software services company, buys Atco I-Tek for $195 million. tco I-Tek is the IT wing of the $16-billion Canadian enterprise ATCO Group that mainly deals in logistics and utilities.

7. Israel-Gaza conflict escalates with mounting toll of casualty; UNSC calls for immediate ceasefire. The offensive has so far claimed 450 Palestinian lives whereas Israel has lost just 18.

8.India slips to 76th place in Global Innovation Index 2014.

9. Typhoon Rammasun (Glenda) hits Philippines - Even as the Philippines was trying to recover from the destruction caused by super typhoon Haiyan last year, another typhoon Rammasun smashed large parts of the Philippines killing one person and forcing hundreds of thousands to take shelter in evacuation centres. Typhoon Rammasun (also known as Glenda) hit south of Manila on the Philippine island of Luzon before moving west toward China’s Hainan Island.

10. TV Gopalakrishnan has been honoured with the Sangita Kalanidhi award 2014. The annual award is considered the highest title for a Carnatic musician. He, an acclaimed musician and mridangam exponent, has also bagged Sangeet Natak Akademi and Padma Bhushan awards.

11. Rory McIlroy clinches 2014 British Open Golf Championship. Its the 3rd major title for the Northern Irish golfer after winning the 2011 US Open and PGA Championship in 2012. Name of the trophy: Claret Jug.
